The original sculpture of Narcissus was discovered in Pompei in a house, during the excavations in that period and immediately became famous. The sculpture was described in the catalogue of the Chiurazzi foundry,by the secretary of the museum of Naples, as being the most beautiful bronze sculpture to have been discovered in Pompei.
